Nevada County Bakers Celebrate National Food Bloggers’ Bake Sale
March 25th, 2010Hunger Tightens Its Grip This Holiday Season
November 22nd, 2009There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we’re here for something else besides ourselves.~Eric Sevareid 1912-1992
Today we must ask ourselves if we are doing everything we can to promote peace. If we do not vigorously combact child hunger, than the answer to that question is “NO”. Eliminating child hunger in America is a paramount importance in the quest for peace. The ultimate goal is a world where every child can receive a school lunch or even a meal.
Compared to a year ago emergency food requests doubled, daily nutritious snacks to 1,600 school children are up by 33%, but twice as many eligible kids are being denied. 450 summertime lunches weekly to 90 hungry youngsters are up by 50%, while still excluding scores of eligible children for lack of sufficient resources.
There are many ways to give back this holiday season. Giving back to your community is as simple as visiting your local food bank, donate nonperishable food to benefit the hungry in your community. Purchase a bag of grocery items at your local grocery store. Grocery stores offer a variety of staples to purchase and those staples are donated to the local food banks for needy families. Lots of stores are offering a Free Turkey with your grocery store purchase. If you have a turkey already, why not donate one?
Hungry families need help this season. How satisfying would it be if you could help a hungry family this season? What if you could give a family a full turkey meal that not only represents food but hope?
Nevada County Bakers:Sweets For A Cause

Sweets For A Cause: Who can resist a bake sale during the holidays? It’s a delcious way to raise money for a worthy organization that also rewards patrons with every bite.
On Saturday, December 12, 2009, the Nevada County Bakers will be having another bake sale at the Nevada County Food and Toy Run.
Every second Saturday in December for the last 12 years hundreds of motorcyclists rumble through the towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley on the way to the Nevada County Fairgrounds where hundreds of children and adults await in anticipation of their arrival.
Needy families receive a Christmas turkey, 10 lb. bag of potatoes and canned goods to take home for the Holidays. Each child receives at least 3 toys and everyone celebrates with live music, food and raffle prizes in a vivacious atmosphere.

Community Bake Sales – A Call To Action!
November 10th, 2009Welcome to the Nevada County Bakers. I am excited to officially have a website dedicated to our team and our cause: The Great American Bake Sale: Ending Childhood Hunger In America and in our community.
The Great American Bake Sale is an annual, national fundraising campaign that encourages everyone in their community to help end childhood hunger in America by hosting bake sales in their community. Thus, the creation of the Nevada County Bakers Team.
The proceeds raised from the bake sales are submitted to Share Our Strength organization on behalf of the Nevada County Bakers and distributed to our community’s most effective childhood hunger organizations and our local schools.
It takes one part love, one part family, one part fun and a touch of community to end childhood hunger in America. Your contribution to Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale helps to make sure that no child in America grows up hungry.
Please join us in the fight to end childhood hunger in our community. One more thing…don’t forget that children are hungry all year long, not just during the summer months.
